The Chef's Own Barbecue Sauce

1 cup dry red wine
1/4 cup balsamic or red wine vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
2 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbs soy sauce
1 onion, coarsely chopped
1 Tbs sugar
1 Tbs grated orange zest
1 tsp ground ginger
3 to 4 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped

Combine all ingredients in an electric blender or food processor and process until fairly smooth but still slightly chunky. Transfer to a saucepan and bring to a boil over moderate heat. Reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes. The sauce will be quite thin.

Yield: about 2 cups
