Beef Kushisashi (Japanese Style Beef Skewers)
1 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup chopped green onions and tops
2 Tbs sugar
1 Tbs vegetable oil
1 1/2 tsp cornstarch
1 clove garlic, pressed
1 tsp grated fresh ginger root
2 1/2 lbs boneless beef sirloin steak
Blend soy sauce, green onions, sugar, oil, cornstarch, garlic, and ginger in small saucepan. Simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 1 to 2 minutes; set aside. Slice beef into 1/8 inch thick strips about 4 inches long and 1 inch wide (don't worry it if they don't come out exactly.) Put beef strips into a dish and pour the soy sauce mixture over them and stir to coat evenly. Put in fridge for at least an hour. Thread the beef onto bamboo or metal skewers and grill.
Yield: 10 to 12 Skewers
