  Cream Cheese Cookies

1 pkg (3 oz) cream cheese
1 cup shortening, butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp vanilla
3/4 tsp salt (if you use shortening, otherwise omit)
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 1/2 cups flour

Cream shortening and cream cheese until fluffy. Add sugar, egg and vanilla. Beat until well mixed. Add dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly. Roll into balls and flatten with fork tines on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 F for 10 to 12 minutes or until slightly browned. Decorate as desired or they are delicious plain.

Yield: 4 Dozen Cookies
